Description
-----------
As part of the Accelerated Infrastructure Program 3 (AIP3), several projects will be carried out in the Quebec City Base of the Canadian Coast Guard, located at 101 Champlain Boulevard in Quebec City. The planned construction work includes, among other things, the creation of a new service tunnel and new underground pipes which will necessitate the excavation of surfaces. However, it was shown that a part of the area where the construction work has been planned has an archaeological potential ranging from medium to high.
So, there is a high probability that many remains and archaeological resources are present under the exterior surfaces and these are at risk of being damaged or destroyed when the construction work is undertaken.
Fisheries and Oceans Canada (FOC) recognized the importance and obligation of carrying out the archaeological excavation beforehand and of archaeological supervision during construction work to locate and unearth potential remains and save the relevant archaeological data still in place.
As part of the project, the following services will be required (see section 9 - Required Services):
- Archaeological excavation before construction work;
- Archaeological supervision during construction work.
