The Global Institute for Energy, Minerals & Society (GIEMS) is leading the Nuclear Research Reactor FEL-1 Feasibility Study to assess the potential development of a nuclear research reactor at the University of Saskatchewan's Saskatoon campus. The study includes four independently procured assessment work packages addressing distinct aspects of the project's feasibility.
Through RFP-B, GIEMS is seeking a qualified Indigenous-owned consulting firm, or a consulting firm partnered with an Indigenous-owned business, to undertake an environmental and societal assessment incorporating meaningful engagement with Indigenous communities, rightsholders, and broader community stakeholders relevant to the potential project.
The assessment will examine environmental, land-use, water, air, and socio-cultural considerations, incorporating Indigenous-led environmental perspectives and knowledge systems alongside input from broader community and societal stakeholders. The work will also consider workforce, community, and societal factors that may influence potential siting, design, and project development.
The successful proponent will identify relevant rightsholders and stakeholders, establish appropriate engagement approaches, document perspectives and concerns, assess environmental and societal risks and constraints, and identify information gaps and further engagement or assessment requirements.
The findings will contribute to the overall FEL-1 feasibility assessment and help identify the conditions, uncertainties, and further analysis required to consider advancing the project to FEL-2.
Interested proponents should review the full RFP for scope, deliverables, qualifications, and submission requirements.
