The Emissions Research and Measurement Section (ERMS) of Environment and Climate Change Canada, undertakes laboratory and on road exhaust emissions testing for the ECCC CEPA Vehicle, Engine and Equipment emissions compliance program and for research studies. Portable Emissions Measurement System (PEMS) instrumentation is used for on road testing which consists of an exhaust flow monitor, which connects to the exhaust pipe of the vehicle/engine and the sampling/analysis modules that collect samples of raw exhaust, conditions and analyzes the samples. The ERMS has a number of these systems that are used on a regular basis.
The system is designed to collect and analyze raw exhaust samples which are normally high temperature, contain particles, acids, moisture and other components that are detrimental to the maintenance and calibration of the system. It has been the experience of the ERMS over the past 6 years that regular maintenance and calibration is a requirement for these systems to ensure quality testing results.
In order to ensure continued operation of the PEMS, ECCC is engaging a contractor for “as and when” required service of the PEMS as well as provision of operational spare components for the following:
Individual analyzer repair,
1065 Analyzer calibration and repair,
Exhaust flow meter calibration and repair,
Complete system calibration.
