1. Advance Contract Award Notice (ACAN)
An ACAN is a public notice indicating to the supplier community that a department or agency intends to award a contract for goods, services or construction to a pre-identified supplier, thereby allowing other suppliers to signal their interest in bidding, by submitting a statement of capabilities. If no supplier submitsa statement of capabilities that meets the requirements set out in the ACAN, on or before the closing date stated in the ACAN, the contracting officer may then proceed with the award to the pre-identified supplier.
2. Definition of the requirement

Researchers use unique microscopes for the imaging of auto fluorescent plant tissues, brightfield viewing and hypoxia studies. A common essential need in these research projects is to have an inverted microscope with an on-stage incubator that allows imaging of live cells in media from below which allows much improved imaging of early stage cereal embryos compared to an upright microscope. Thermo-Fisher (Life Technologies)’s EVOS microscope offers a very robust system to meet this operational requirement at AAFC.
