As part of the Government of Canada's Oceans Protection Plan (OPP)the Regional Response Plan initiative, where CCG is committed to, among other things: "As part of the planning process, Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard will work with Aboriginal communities and other stakeholders to identify and map ecologically sensitive areas as well as culturally, socially and economically important areas. This will help to better determine conservation priorities, for example by identifying critical habitat, and allow authorities to take early action, such as closing fisheries, where appropriate.
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Canadian Coast Guard, requires the provision of an integrated system that guides decision-makers and helps produce the information needed for an effective response. Such a system could be used to collect information electronically, to present information in structured and concise reports. In addition, the custom mapping interface would link the geographic elements graphically and structurally to information blocks and intervention support tools.
The implementation of an integrated system for CCG-ER can be done in two phases. Phase 1 of the project will involve the implementation of a system based on a thorough analysis of the needs of CCG-IE. A phase 2, which will probably take place in fiscal year 2020-2021, will focus on the semi-automation of sector plan reports as well as the improvement of the platform by adding tools related to specific needs of CCG. Subsequent phases could be used to improve the system, adding miscellaneous tools and / or adjusting certain functions of the platform.
