Background

Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) - Valcartier Research Centre develops and applies numerical simulations of weapon systems to perform weapon effectiveness studies. The development of these models is based primarily on the use of Matlab/Simulink and/or C++ and occasionally FORTRAN and JAVA. The munitions considered include small arms ammunition, gun munitions, bombs and missiles. DRDC - Valcartier Research Centre develops sub-models of the munition components to evaluate the precision effect chain from launcher to the target. The models are employed to conduct parametric studies to determine the effectiveness of weapons for mission critical engagement scenarios.

This includes development of models and sub-models of munitions launch platforms, targets, development of tools, modelling and simulation, analysis, and execution of option analysis and trade-off studies.
