Biomechanical and Ergonomic Modelling Tool for Assessment
1. Advance Contract Award Notice (ACAN) Explanation
An ACAN is a public notice indicating to the supplier community that a department or agency intends to award a contract for goods, services or construction to a pre-identified supplier, thereby allowing other suppliers to signal their interest in bidding, by submitting a statement of capabilities. If no supplier submits a statement of capabilities that meets the requirements set out in the ACAN, on or before the closing date stated in the ACAN, the contracting officer may then proceed with the award to the pre-identified supplier.
2. Definition of the requirement
The Department of Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC), on behalf of the Department of National Defence (DND), Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), requires the assessment ofCrewstation ergonomics solutions for the Griffon Helicopter aircrew neck pain through biomechanical and ergonomics modelling tools to improve the health and safety of the operational personnel.
It is intended to negotiate a contract with Humansystems Incorporated, Guelph, Ontario.
The Contractormust provide an assessment of the Crewstation Ergonomics Solutions for Griffon Helicopter Aircrew neck Pain using modelling and simulation, more specifically, biomechanical and ergonomics modelling tools. They must evaluate various ergonomic solutions by estimating cumulative neck joint loading differences between the current and proposed solution conditions. The ergonomic solutions that must be considered in this contract include, but are not limitedto, the following:
(i) radar altimeter monitor;
(ii) ?see through the floor' capability;
(iii) better seat ergonomics;
(iv) neck support ideas;
(v) multi-function display usage;

(MFTA: Mission Function Task Analysis; PDA: Physical Demands Analysis), where Griffon Helicopter aircrew missions could be analyzed in terms of neck-loading. The development of this tool, by Humansystems Incorporated, required the unique integration of various tools and techniques (Motion Capture?, XSens?, Visual 3D?). In order to complete the tasks listed in Annex A of requirement W7719-165312, the IMPM must be used.
