Title : KITWANGA RIVER SALMON ASSESSMENT PROGRAM
INTRODUCTION
This statement of work is for a contract to provide a salmon assessment program in the Kitwanga River.
The Kitwanga River is a tributary of the Skeena River. It is located approximately 90 km east of Terrace in northern British Columbia. It supports all six species of Pacific salmon. This program consists of a spring smolt trapping operation and a fall adult counting fence operation on the Kitwanga River.
Part 1 Sockeye Smolt Production
The spring program will focus on the estimation of sockeye smolt production as they migrate from their main rearing area Kitwanga (Kitwancool) Lake.
Part 2 Kitwanga Rriver Salmon Weir Operation Extension
In response to the conservation concern for Kitwanga River sockeye salmon the Gitanyow Fisheries Authority (GFA) initiated a Kitwanga sockeye rebuilding program. The GFA operate the Kitwanga salmon weir to collect accurate sockeye escapement data on a yearly basis. This work is supported by the Northern Boundary Fund of the Pacific Salmon Commission.
This part of the program is for an extension of the salmon weir operation to include counts of coho, pink, chum and Chinook salmon that enter the Kitwanga River after the sockeye migration is complete. The anticipated extension period is from September 4 to October 13 annually.
PERIOD OF CONTRACT
The services are to be performed during the period commencing upon the date of award of the contract and are to be completed by March 31st, 2015 with two (2) optional periods of one (1) year.
SECURITY
There is no Security Requirement to perform work under this contract.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans has determined that any intellectual property rights arising from the performance of the Work under the resulting contract will belong to Canada, on the following grounds: where the material developed or produced consists of material subject to copyright, with the exception of computer software and all documentation pertaining to that software.
