The role of the Contractor will be threefold:
1. To renew content created by Health Canada (HC) and the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) so it can be migrated to the Canada.ca website. Canada.ca is a newly launched Government of Canada website that focuses on user needs. The Contractor’s resources will be asked to rewrite content in plain language using the Canada.ca Web WritingStyle Guide, validate content with feedback from subject matter experts, and deliver finalized written content to the HC Project Authority.
2. To research, develop and write a Health Theme Style Guide (HTSG) for applying the direction provided in the Canada.ca Web Writing Style Guide.
3. To provide customized Canada.ca Web Writing Awareness Sessions for Health Canada (HC) and Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) based on Canada.ca Web Writing Style Guide and the HTSG.
HC is a large department, working with a number of partners, stakeholders and agencies to help Canadians maintain and improve their health. Much of its work involves communicating with the public about legislation, science and research, health risks, product safety, disease prevention, and healthy lifestyles. Over time, many HC and PHAC branches have developed their own approach to communicating with audiences, which has created disparities in the quality and user-friendliness of the information.
The Contractor will be renewing content to reflect a single style in plain language that is geared towards fulfilling the needs of users. The Contractor will also be creating a HTSG that will guide content owners and creators on how to use the Canada.ca Web Writing Style Guide. And finally, the Contractor will be presenting a series of Web writing awareness sessions to internal clients on plain language, best Web writing practices and how to apply the Canada.ca Web Writing Style Guide and the HTSG.
