The Global Institute for Energy, Minerals & Society (GIEMS) is leading the Nuclear Research Reactor FEL-1 Feasibility Study to assess the potential development of a nuclear research reactor at the University of Saskatchewan's Saskatoon campus. The study includes four independently procured assessment work packages addressing distinct aspects of the project's feasibility.
Through RFP-A, GIEMS is seeking a qualified proponent to provide specialized technical and engineering expertise to assess the feasibility of a potential nuclear research reactor.
The assessment will examine reactor technology and configuration options, preliminary siting considerations, infrastructure and campus integration requirements, regulatory and licensing pathways, safety, fuel and waste management considerations, and technical risks and enabling conditions.
The work will be delivered in two phases. The successful proponent will first complete the technical assessment and establish a standardized framework for receiving cost and schedule inputs from the other work packages. The second phase will involve reviewing, reconciling, and integrating applicable findings into a comprehensive Class D cost estimate and high-level project schedule.
The findings will contribute to the overall FEL-1 feasibility assessment and help identify the conditions, uncertainties, and further analysis required to consider advancing the project to FEL-2.
Interested proponents should review the full RFP for scope, deliverables, qualifications, and submission requirements.
