A DB2 Technical Architect is required to support that environment.
The DB2 zOS environment supported by our division is critical to the military pay system used by DND for the management and payment of all the Canadian Forces. The DB2 zOS also supports the DND SAP environment.
Large numbers of end users depend on the databases and applications supported by the DB2 zOS database management system, and any outages can have significant negative impact on all aspects of DND and CF operations. Even a minor outage of any one of these systems can cause significant problems, which will be brought to the attention of senior departmental managers.

The primary objective of this contract is to ensure the day-to-day maintenance, upgrade, troubleshooting, tuning, capacity planning, configuration management, architecture and integration, and documentation of supported enterprise server environments and virtualization infrastructure is carried out.
Secondary objectives involve an on-going assessment of industry trends, review of related DND changes/trends that will/may affect managed virtualization platforms, and support to tools and infrastructures that enhance the delivery of virtualized resources to our clients.
SCOPE
The work involves the day-to-day back-end support and deployment for all DB2 subsystem and associated component through the services of an advanced Mainframe contractor. This resource is required to ensure all servers are operating within set guidelines, upgraded as required and provide technical support to other members of MOD and SSC, as well as work with clients in order to properly scope and deploy new infrastructure.
Through DND’s and SSC’s Request for Change (RFC) processes this resource will also be responsible for management of related system changes and configurations. In support of these responsibilities, the contractor will be required to attend meetings, provide supporting documentation, carry out hands-on system installations and replacements, and carry out analyses related to troubleshooting, performance, and capacity planning of managed systems as well as produce and peer-review departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
