Environmental changes are affecting water and land resources in the Prairies. Experts predict increased climate volatility – more extreme weather, longer droughts, and more severe localized flooding. To help address these challenges, Budget 2019 set aside up to $1 million for Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) to develop a water and land management strategy for the Prairies. This strategy will be co-developed with Indigenous partners, provincial governments, municipal leaders, agricultural producers, industry, academics and not-for-profit groups. It will also be informed by a review of current and past federal and provincial initiatives to enhance water security, resilience and emergency preparedness.
To understand water and land management issues and to inform recommendations at a Prairie-wide level, WD requires the services of a firm with expertise in the development of baseline hydrology reports, and significant experience working with partners and stakeholders to support the development of sustainable land and water management strategies, including identifying specific issues, challenges, opportunities, and priorities.
