Parks Canada is the federal agency responsible for managing the country’s systems of national parks, national historic sites, and national marine conservation areas. The Agency monitors a range of environmental conditions to achieve its mandate, to help ensure public safety, and to support management of its built assets.
The Agency has thousands of remote sensing devices across the country measuring air and water temperatures, water levels, rainfall, snowpack, wildlife movements, visitation, traffic, etc. The information it collects enables the Agency to make informed decisions in support of its operations (asset management, ecological integrity, visitor experience, resource conservations, public safety, emergency response, fire and flood management, water management, navigation, etc.)
Parks Canada is evaluating options to evolve its monitoring system across the Agency, starting with the Agency’s operations on the ONW. The Agency wishes to build a scalable and integrated remote real-time monitoring and data management solution. This RFI will help Parks Canada begin this transformation.
