Nature of Requirements:
FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) technology 3D printing system
1. Advance Contract Award Notice (ACAN)
An ACAN is a public notice indicating to the supplier community that a department or agency intends to award a contract for goods, services or construction to a pre-identified supplier, thereby allowing other suppliers to signal their interest in bidding, by submitting a statement of capabilities. If no supplier submits a statement of capabilities that meets the requirements set out in the ACAN,on or before the closing date stated in the ACAN, the contracting officer may then proceed with the award to the pre-identified supplier.
2. Definition of the Requirement
Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) - Valcartier requires the provision of one (1) 3D additive manufacturing system using FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) technology for parts manufacturing by rapid prototyping printing, principally using materials as : ABS, Polycarbonate et Nylon, for delivery at DRDC - Valcartier, 2459, route de la Bravoure, building 53, Québec, QC, G3J 1X5 Canada.
The need of a 3D printer able to produce parts of reasonable dimensions (14 in. x 12 in. x 12 in.) with an accuracy of ± 0.005 in. or ± 0.0015 in./in., made of polycarbonate and nylonis essential to be able to deliver our S&T (Science & Technology) projects.
The use of these materials is critical because of their mechanical, thermal and chemical properties which are significantly higher than material (ABS) normally used by othertechnologies.
3. Evaluation Criteria of Statement of Capabilities (Minimum Essential Requirements)
Any interested supplier must demonstrate by way of a statement of capabilities that its equipment meets the following specifications:
The FDM 3Dmanufacturing system must meet the following specifications:
a. Build envelope XYZ (minimum): 14 in. x 12 in. x 12 in.
b. Printing material (minimum):
ABS-M30 (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene 25% to 70% stronger than standard ABS)
ABS-ESD7 (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) with static dissipative properties.
ABS-M30i (high strength acrylonitrile butadiene styrene)
Nylon 12
Polycarbonate
Polycarbonate-ISO (biocompatible)
c. Layer thickness (minimum):
0.005 in., 0.007 in., 0.010 in., 0.013 in.
d. Achievable accuracy (minimum):
±0.005 in. or ±0.0015 in./in. , whichever is greater.
e. Material bays:
Qty=2 (1 model & 1 support)
f. Network communication: 10/100 base T connection. Ethernet protocol
g. Software features and capabilities:
Prepare manufacturing from STL files
Automatically slicing and generating support structures and material extrusion paths
Optimize build orientation for maximum strength and smoothest surface finish
Customize supports for fast, easy removal and best use of materials
Program pauses into the build for any reason, such as to embed hardware or
circuitry
Manipulate tool paths for advanced control over part properties.
h. Power requirements: 208VAC 3 phase, 50/60 Hz, 18 amps. If different provide
transformer
i. Warranty (minimum): 1 year
4. Applicability of the trade agreement(s) to the procurement
This procurement is subject to the following trade agreements:
