BACKGROUND:
The Underwater Archaeology Service (UAS) of Parks Canada has a

operations across Canada, specifically to provide high accuracy
underwater tracking of divers, side-scan sonar towfish,
remotely-operated vehicles (ROVs), and other survey assets
including autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) in the course of
future collaborative survey work.
The system is required to provide highly accurate geo-referenced
positioning for remote-sensing survey, but also to promote the
health and safety of UAS dive teams by allowing surface support
personnel to effectively track diver depth and location, both at
depth and just below the surface.
The system will be deployed from a variety of different vessel
platforms, including survey vessels belonging to the UAS, as
well as on other vessels of opportunity.
