The goal of invasive alien species (IAS) management is to identify and implement a suite of management actions that will result in the greatest net benefit to Canadians. This involves balancing the likelihood of avoiding future damages with the cost of avoidance. Economic impact assessment of IAS in general is essential so that the CFIA has the information to weigh the risks of introduction, either accidental or intentional, of an IAS against the costs of prevention, eradication, control and other responses.
Objective(s)
1. Data to assess the costs and benefits of regulatory and other measures to limit the risk of IAS introduction and spread in Canada with a focus on plants and molluscs.
2. Generation of information to support development, implementation and communication of these measures to Canadian stakeholders.
3. To update the “Invasive Plants in Canada” document
