Requirement:
National Research Council Canada has a requirement to purchase a
High Pressure Heated Stirred Reactor to be delivered to 4250
Wesbrook Mall, Vancouver, BC V6T 1W5.
General Description and Usage
The high pressure heated stirred reactor will be used in
corrosion and corrosion/erosion studies with various
environments that are typical in mining, oil, gas and power
generation industries. Some of these environments may be
viscous fluids with viscosities of 2000 cp. Given the nature of
the studies, the capability of the apparatus to vigorously stir
such fluids is important - in fact, the higher the rotation
speed that can be achieved, the better it is.
Suspended abrasive particles may be present in the environment.
To prevent erosion of the vessel, a liner must be used every
time when suspensions are present, hence borosilicate glass or
stainless steel liners need to be available. The liner will not
prevent the erosion of the internal wetted parts like the
thermowell and the stirrer. Therefore these parts must be
removable and replaceable by the user.
Corrosion studies involve electrochemistry, hence the need to
pass electrical wires through the head and into the vessel. The
wires, obviously, need to be insulated from the lid and between
them. The wires are low current and low voltage, but need to
withstand the most aggressive environments and be compatible
with the experiments. Typically, they are bare (non-insulated)
and made of gold or platinum. Ideally, the glands used to seal
the wires would allow for these wires to be replaced by the
user. If non replaceable contacts are to be provided, they must
be platinum or gold wires (not plated) and allow spot welded
contacts on both ends.
A high pressure liquid pump will be used to bring he vessel at
the operating pressure, therefore a high pressure liquid
connection with a dip tube is needed on the autoclave's head.
General Construction
Some of the environments that will be used during experiments
and tests may contain significant amounts of dissolved chlorides
and/or sulphides, hence a high temperature corrosion resistant
construction material is paramount for the vessel, head and
wetted parts.
The system must be designed to allow full, unobstructed access
to the vessel, head and their interior surfaces for cleaning,
inspection and maintenance.
After the assembly process is completed, the autoclave system
shall be shop tested to insure proper operation before shipment.
General Practices
All electrical equipment, wiring, conduit, panels, motors, etc.
shall comply at the time of the bid with the current editions of
the National Electric Code (NEC) and the Occupational Safety and
Health Act (OSHA).
All electrical components shall bear either the UL label, the
label of a nationally recognized laboratory, or the label of the
local governing authority where required. Bidder shall list any
item or area where compliance is not possible.
Properly sized circuit breakers, fuses and thermal overloads
shall be furnished with all starters, disconnects, and control
circuits as required
