The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) offers part time group French as a second language (FSL) training to its employees. The training is provided from September to June on CNSC premises for employees in the National Capital Region and by videoconference for employees in the regions. The objective of the training is to prepare employees to achieve and retain levels of bilingualism in accordance with the Public Service Commission (PSC) standards.
The results oriented CNSC training program is mainly based on the Canada School of Public Service (CSPS) program. Annual programs were developed by level and weekly plans were established to reflect the weekly content for each group.
Placement tests are used to identify the level of new learners. Placements also take into consideration the results of the PSC Second Language Evaluation (SLE) if applicable and are based on the CSPS training objectives.
