University of Calgary - Advanced Contract Award Notice / Notice of Proposed Procurement - Gammacell 1000 Removal and Transport Services

The University of Calgary (UCalgary) intends to contract Best Theratronics for the removal of Nordion International Inc. Gammacell GC1000-1285 from UCalgary site. This service pertains to the transpor of the specialized equipment containing a sealed radioactive cesium 137 source. Such equipment cannot be handled by general waste management or recycling vendors due to the radiological risks and the specialized containment and transport requirements dictated by federal law. To UCalgary’s knowledge, Best Theratronics is the only vendor in Canada with the appropriate licensing, technical expertise, and track record to safely decommission and remove this specific model.
