This service pertains to the transpor of the specialized equipment containing a sealed radioactive cesium 137 source. Such equipment cannot be handled by general waste management or recycling vendors due to the radiological risks and the specialized containment and transport requirements dictated by federal law. To UCalgary’s knowledge, Best Theratronics is the only vendor in Canada with the appropriate licensing, technical expertise, and track record to safely decommission and remove this specific model.
